Types of Cholesterol

Cholesterol is an oily substance. It is needed by our body to function, and we get Cholesterol in three natural ways.

                1) The liver, an organ of our body, produces cholesterol.

                2) Cholesterol comes directly from the non-veg food we eat.

                3) Both Trans Fat and Saturated Fat from vegetarian foods and oil products are converted into cholesterol by our body. Also, eating too much sweets can turn  into cholesterol.

Why we need Cholesterol & How much we required?

Cholesterol is essential for every function in the body. Cholesterol is needed to produce Vitamin D in our body.

cholesterol Facts

When the body gets more cholesterol than it needs, it starts to build up on the walls of blood vessels. Over time it narrows the blood vessels and causes blockages in the blood vessels.

High blood cholesterol cannot be detected naturally. There are no specific symptoms for this.

High blood cholesterol increases the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

After the age of 20, a cholesterol test should be done every five years.

A man's average cholesterol level should be below 300 mg. Diabetic patients should have less than 200 mg.

HDL Cholesterol is referred to as 'good cholesterol' as it transports the cholesterol in our body to the liver. On average it should not be less than 40 mg.

LDL Cholesterol is referred to as 'bad cholesterol' because it transports the cholesterol in the liver to many parts of our body. This fat should not exceed 100 mg on average.

Triglyceride, the fat that makes up the belly. Triglyceride levels of more than 100 in the blood can combine with LDL cholesterol to clog arteries.
