Heart is a house - let's build it healthy!

Heart... an organ so small it can fit in the palm of your hand. But, its structure and functions are amazing. "Heart can be compared to a house''

Heart is a house
Heart is a house

Structure of the heart:

Heart Chambers
Heart Chambers

Just like a house has different rooms like living room, kitchen, bedroom, similarly in the heart there are four separate rooms, two rooms above and two rooms below. The upper chambers of the heart are called `right atrium', `left atrium', and the lower chambers are called `right ventricle' and `left ventricle'.

Heart wall:

Just as there are walls in a house to separate one room from another, so there are walls in the heart. That is, there is a septum between the two atria and between the two ventricles. The walls of the lower chambers are slightly thicker than those of the upper chambers. These walls are also made up of muscles and tissues.

a) Architect of the heart

We will change the building structure of the house according to our use through the designer called ''Architect''. If the electricity breaks down, an electrician will fix it. A plumber will fix it if the water pipe is clogged. Similarly, heart also has its own specialists like electrician, plumber, architect.

There are mainly two types of problems that can occur in the heart. One is congenital heart diseases. A newborn baby may have a hole in the heart or a malformation due to underdevelopment. Another is Valvular Heart Disease

In this problem, there is a defect in the walls of the heart valves. A heart surgeon can correct this defect in the heart. He can be called the 'Architect of the Heart'.

Doors

There are also doors in the heart. We call them as 'valves'. Located between the ventricles and the atria, these are miraculous doors that open to one side.

b) Electrician of the heart

Just as electrical appliances work when electricity flows, blood flows from one chamber to another when the heart beats. A heart needs electricity to beat. That is, if the heart is a motor, it needs electricity to run. There is an area called 'Sinus Node' in the heart. That is where electricity is generated.

Like electrical wires, the heart contains electrical signal conductors. Electricity flows through them. These cause the heart to contract and dilate. The contraction and expansion of the heart once is called a 'heart beat'. If it is deficient, there will be a change in heartbeat. An Electro Physiologist (Electro Physiologist) will correct this with a pacemaker device. He can be called the 'electrician of the heart'.

c) Plumber of the heart

There is a pipe system to carry water to every room in the house. Likewise, the heart has  vessels called 'blood vessels' to carry blood to each chamber. When these blood vessels become blocked, blood flow is restricted. This blockage is repaired by an Interventional Cardiologist by inserting a stent balloon. He can be called the 'plumber of the heart'.
