Obesity - What to do to control body weight?

   Obesity not only affect our health, it also affects our self-confidence through body-shaming, create struggle in relationship. Finally, it will lead to even depression as well. So it is very important to know the steps to keep away from obesity.

As a medical rule said that 'A person's body weight should be proportionate to his height'. Conversely, if you gain or lose weight, then the risk of diseases will be high. Obese people face many problems in their homes, offices and shopping malls, from climbing stairs to performing normal tasks.

“Metabolism refers to the extent to which the food a person eats helps his body grow. People with this low metabolism will gain weight even if they eat less food. If the metabolism is not proper, the body accumulates excess fat and obesity increases. Genetic factors and eating unhealthy foods can also lead to weight gain.

Some people who work in an office do not eat on time. They are irregular in their diet like eating late, eating less breakfast, eating too much at lunch, and eating on an empty stomach at night. Some people skip breakfast and over-eat in the afternoon. This also increases weight. 

The body does not accept eating too much at night. This is called as 'unhealthy', 'untimely diet'. Eating at fast food restaurants, cold drinks, energy drinks, alcoholic beverages like beer, soda, burgers, pizza etc. can also increase obesity.

(1) Ways to maintain body weight:

  • There are many diet methods like 'Paleo diet', 'Keto diet'. They are high in protein and fat and low in starch. You can choose and stick to whatever suits your health.
  • Eat on time.
  • Starch and protein foods should be taken only in required quantity.
  • People who don't do much physical activity tend to gain weight. They should exercise at least 30 min daily. If you exercise properly, the eaten food will be easily digested. Make it as a habit to walk or run at least a short distance every day.
  • Rice, sugar and chapati, bread should not be taken in excess.
  • At-least four hour’s gap is required between each meal.
  • Minimum 8 hours of sleep is essential for every human then only the growth hormone in the body will increase. It prevents weight gain. Similarly, there should be a one and half an hour gap between dinner and sleep.
  • Obesity can also be maintained by following a 'grazing type diet'. Such a diet is widely used in China.

 

Diet Plan

   If the weight cannot be controlled by following the above methods, then the 'Endoscopy' method can be used as per the advice of the doctor. It goes up to the stomach and a small balloon is placed there. It always feels like eating. So, you can't eat too much food. This should be kept for 6 months and then the balloon should be removed. This method can reduce body weight up to 15 kg. It is a new non-surgical procedure.

     For those who are unable to reduce their obesity, a solution can be obtained through bariatric surgery. Also, this treatment is useful for people suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. BMI is a measure of how much a person should weigh according to their height. (B.M.I). The patient who are Interested to go for bariatric surgery should have a BMI above 35 in-order to avoid any complication.
